You Would Think For The Price Of Admission You Could Stay Awake.

There are plenty of great things to photograph at Disney.  You know like these type of things.

But I found something better.  My 8 year old son and I were on a mission for ice cream.  As we made our way through the crowd, I noticed something . . . something interesting . . . something strange . . . something quite funny!  A whole family asleep on a bench.  We stopped in our tracks.  Time seemed to stand still.  I immediately went for my camera in the Black Rapid R-Strap hanging on my right side, drew it to my face with haste and SNAP!  I actually took more than one shot of them.  Then 2 guys behind us started laughing.  They asked "Do you even know those people?"  "Nope", I replied.  Which caused them to laugh even harder.

This was the beginning of a photo theme for my day.  One might think that this family would be the only people sleeping in Epcot.  One would be wrong.  So just like you when you get a new car and you start to notice all of the other same cars on the road.  We began to spot the sleepers.  And I proceeded to photograph those dozers.  I guess the happiest place on earth wore them out.

I love this one.  Somehow her flip flops make it.

Do you really trust that no one is going to steal that backpack?

This guy I can relate to.  Looks like a Dad who has just had enough.

I can't talk though, we had a snoozer in our ranks as well.  She's awful cute though.

So thank you all of you unsuspecting sleepers.  I pray your Disney dreams came true!

Beach Bride

This was the latest wedding.  A wedding overlooking the beach.  Funny how you take for granted the place that you live.  But the ocean really is amazing.  And makes for amazing photographs.

The above shot and this one are a couple of my favorites.

Here are a few more on the beach.

Always be on the lookout for details that help tell the story of the wedding day.

The rings are obvious.  I found some of the flowers to shoot through for the ring shots.

Necklaces, hairpieces, shoes etc. are some details that may be overlooked.

Candids, of course, are requested by most every one.  Capturing moments that would otherwise pass by.  Here is the bride with her brother and sister.

And the kiddos are some of my favorite subjects.  This particular one was difficult to get a shot of.

Be blessed.

An Evening At The Beach

Another family chose me to capture some moments for them.  These guys.

We had such a nice time.  The weather was beautiful.  The children are adorable.  Photographically, it can't get much better.

So here are a few of my favorites.

Scouts Are Awesome

Got to photograph Scout Dens this past weekend.  It was a great time.

Started shooting at 400p as the sun started moving behind a tree line to create a nice shady spot where I could control the lighting.  I am using two strobes.  One through an umbrella as the key and a bare one for accent.  You can see the bare strobe creating a nice edge from the left of the frame.

I balanced this with the ambient almost 1:1.  I may have let the ambient drop 1/3 stop at times.

I thought it would be fun to let the kids be, well kids.  So I took individuals using the umbrella from the front and left for key and the bare strobe from the back right as accent.

Then a group shot.  These are ambient light only.

And then I set up for the fun shot.  I had visualized this a week or two before.  I wanted something to raise the boys so that I could get this composition.  I considered hay bales, picnic benches, and others but here is a loading dock type of thing.  Perfect.

I set the leader in position (you know, arms crossed, showing what a great leader they are) and then walked back to the kiddos and told them that when I say "alright, look at me", go crazy.  I gave them ideas: fingers in noses, tongues sticking out, etc.  Turns out I didn't need to give them ideas.  This is just how they are. :)  I should know because one of my sons is included here.

Here's a few more for good measure.

To be fair to the troop at the top, here's proof that they can be civil.

And by they way the leaders really are great leaders.
I hope you enjoy these photos.  They definitely make me smile.

Another Beautiful Wedding.

So I was an assistant at a wedding recently.  A second shooter if you will.  As I've said before, my friend Mark Morgan and I have found that shooting a wedding with two photographers is a must these days.  Not only is the stress load on either photographer reduced but the end result is better.  A second shooter is able to look for and get angles that the primary can not.  I believe the customer is more pleased with the results.

Photographing weddings has taught me to think more on my feet photographically speaking.  Situations arise that were not expected and you just have to get the shots.  Using whatever light is available and augmenting/replacing bad lighting.

The lead shot above was lit by holding a strobe in my left hand bouncing it off of the ceiling.  The lighting is balanced with the natural light coming from a window and some of the fluorescent light in the room.

This one was shot using the same technique only this time I'm standing on a chair in the kids Sunday school room.  OSHA would not approve of my 230 lb. self on that plastic chair.

The ceremony itself is one of those "capture what you can capture" kind of things.  We set up lighting in the huge room and Mark was in control of those so I was shooting ambient light.  Here is the classic first look photo of the groom getting his first look at his bride.

I met the limo at the reception and was very happy with the sunset light here for this bridal portrait.

We snuck outside for some portraits during the reception.  It was overcast and started to rain, bringing our outdoor session to a premature close.  But we were able to get some nice shots.

I always capture some of the details from the reception.  Much time is spent on decorations so it is worth remembering.

The reception is fun I must admit.  For lots of reasons.  It is a blank slate in terms of lighting.  Typically the bride and groom don't care what you do during the reception.  So most of the night I used the technique describe above bouncing a strobe off of the ceiling but I set up another bare strobe somewhere else in room to provide backlight/rimlight of some kind to create some drama.  These shots are some of my favorites.

Here you see the key light from the right being bounced off of a beige wall, rimlight coming from the left from a bare strobe across the room.

This is just a great moment.

A loving moment.  Here you have the key light from my bounced flash balanced with the ambient lighting to create a nice effect.

And one of my absolute favs is this.  Here is the guy that caught the garter.  One of the strobes in the background is mine, the other is Marks.  Good timing.

More weddings are on the books so keep watching.

Be blessed.

Flowers, Gardens, Family

I went to Epcot's Flower & Garden Festival with these people.  They are my loved ones.

As with all things Disney, it was nicely done.

I want to call this one "The Escape" but I'm sure that is not very original.

The details in this passion flower are amazing to me.  God is very creative.

Again with the details in this butterfly.

Certainly get a lot of inspirational ideas.  If only I were a gardener.

I love this boy!

And this girl.

Kind of a random post but I really like these shots.

Keep your eyes open.  Have a recent wedding to post and 2 more booked that will be featured in the future.

Be blessed.
